Baby Steps

 

This inside the library after we finished painting. The pictue is totally staged; I'm left handed. Haha. A lot of painting has been taking place, more pictures to come. I don't want to give anything away but it miiiight be a colorful wonderland.

 

Books! We spent a few hours at the book store picking out these books; they're all brand new and written in French. We picked out a wide variety of books and it was a great use of a day. We got a lot of books that talk about how things are done in different countries like dancing around the world or peoples of the world or stories from around the world because we can read the stories and then find the countries on the map and it's a really good group activity. They also start to learn a little more about geography and not just memorizing a map but having other information to make it more interesting and informative. We also got a lot of science books (including Magic School bus... Ms. Frizzle has a really weird name in French...) and some reference books. There were a few books written in Jula (the local language spoken in my region) so I bought 10, but I would like more. We also got books for really little kids so we can hopefully do something with preschool- age kids.

 

All in all, we spent $800 in one day. We had all the money in cash that we had stuffed down our shirts and when we finally got all of the books picked out and totalled up the bookstore staff laughed so hard when they saw us pull out all of this cash from our shirts and set it down on the counter. Then they laughed again when we told them that were planned to carry these massive boxes out to the taxi stop by ourselves. They were definitely surprised that we didn't have a car like most expats (but we were carrying around our money in our shirts so they probably weren't that surprised). At any rate, they ended up carrying the boxes out for us which was awesome. They also gave us a 10% discount. It was a good day.

Why yes, we did get pop up books!
